Older LGBT Project

new logo jpegThe Older LGBT Project is for anyone over 50 and offers activities and events, training to organisations, and campaigns to improve things for those of us who are ageing.

Currently we offer three day time drop-ins a month:

First Wednesday of each month:

Modelo Lounge, 143-145 Church Road, Hove | 10.30 – 12.00.

Third Thursday of each month:

Emmaus Cafe in Portslade Village | 11 – 12.30.

[On the Number 1 bus route, get off at St. Nicholas Church]

Fourth Tuesday of each month:

The Breakfast Club cafe, 11-13 Market Street, The Lanes | 10.00 – 11.30.

[The Breakfast Club cafe is situated near Bartholomew Square, up the paved walkway from East Street near Donatello’s]

We also offer occasional trips out and workshops on relevant issues.

We aim to listen to what Older people want and try to create change in our local area to respond to this.  Currently we are working closely with the council and sheltered housing providers (housing associations, private providers and Stonewall Housing) to make older people’s residential choices more LGBT inclusive. This means staff are trained to think about people’s needs, and what’s on offer. Older LGBT people deserve options in their housing, and taking the decision to go back in the closet shouldn’t have to be one of them!

We are also working in partnership with the Befriending Brighton & Hove to recruit LGBT volunteer befrienders to match with LGBT clients.

Please contact helen.bashford@switchboard.org.uk if you want to be on the mailing list, want to volunteer as a befriender or supporter of the project, or would like to come along to one of the drop-ins.
