We’re Recruiting: LGBTQ+ Community Steering Group

Deadline extended! : Switchboard is recruiting members for our new LGBTQ+ Community Steering Group

Do you feel represented by Switchboard? What about by local healthcare services?

Want to have a direct say about the issues that matter to you, and have a positive impact on Switchboard and local services?

Would you like to gain experience of planning and service-delivery at a charity?

We are recruiting volunteers for our brand new LGBTQ+ Community Steering Group, an exciting project that will put power into the hands of local LGBTQ+ people to help shape Switchboard services — and importantly — local healthcare services, too.

We are looking for local LGBTQ+ people who care about equality and want to make a positive impact to help make Switchboard and local health services work better for everyone.

Help us improve healthcare for LGBTQ+ people

One important part of our work at Switchboard is carrying out regular engagement with LGBTQ+ Communities to provide input on local healthcare services. It’s called HIP – our Health and Inclusion Project – and it aims to make sure LGBTQ+ people’s voices are heard in health care decisions made by the local council and Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). By participanting in the Steering Group, you will have a direct say on how we approach the research topics we are given, and generate ideas for new topics that are important to you.

Examples of past topics include LGBTQ+ people affected by Dementia, Cancer, people of faith, BAME and people of colour (PoC), D/deaf communities and more.

Who can apply

You don’t need any particular qualifications or experience to apply – we value your lived experience above all else. Anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ and lives, studies, works or socialises in Brighton & Hove is invited to apply, and we particularly invite applications from people from BAME/PoC, trans/non-binary and disabled communities.

We have reserved a minimum number of places for trans/non-binary people, self-identified women, and  BAME/PoC and disabled LGBTQ+ people. It’s best if you can apply as soon as possible, but applications will remain open until these places are filled. Please contact sophie.barnes@switchboard.org.uk if you have any questions.

Please note: We have extended the deadline to 11:59pm Monday 8th April 2019.

How to apply

To apply, please fill in the Steering Group Information and Application Pack, along with an Equalities Monitoring Form and send it to sophie.barnes@switchboard.org.uk

You are welcome to fill in this form using a computer, writing by hand, on the phone or in person.

You can email the form to sophie.barnes@switchboard.org.uk or hand it in to Reception at Community Base, 113 Queens Road, Brighton, BN1 3XG.

The deadline is 11:59pm Monday 8th April 2019.

These are challenging times for our healthcare system, and it is more important than ever that LGBTQ+ voices are heard in the many important decisions that are being made. It’s also crucial that the LGBTQ+ community that relies on our services at Switchboard have a say in designing and delivering this work.

If you think you would like to be part of a group driving positive change for LGBTQ+ communities, we would love to hear from you!

If you would like to talk to someone about applying or to ask for support to write your application, contact sophie.barnes@switchboard.org.uk

We look forward to hearing from you!
