Reform of the Gender Recognition Act (GRA)

This month the Government announced the long awaited consultation for the reform of the Gender Recognition Act (GRA). This is a piece of legislation which allows trans people to legally change their gender, and came into place over 13 years ago.

We now have the opportunity to change what is a humiliating, stressful and pathologising process for trans people into something better. One which does not require medicalisation, takes into account non-binary people, and those under 18.

Gendered Intelligence have put together an amazing guide which takes you step by step through the process, and exactly what needs to be changed, all of which has been informed by their trans service users.

The consultation closes on October 19th and it is really important that cisgender allies take part too. By taking part in the consultation you will be doing your part to make life a little bit easier for trans and/or non-binary people.
