Support an LGBTQ person in need this Christmas by donating to Switchboard

Switchboard has been supporting LGBTQ people in Brighton & Hove for more than forty years – but we need your help to secure our future. In order to continue our work and the vital services we provide we’re relying on community funds to keep us going. Without your support we will no longer be able to provide all of the services we offer and will be forced to reduce the number of people we support.

By donating you will help us to reduce social isolation, improve mental wellbeing and offer a listening ear to LGBTQ people in Brighton and Hove.

Give the gift of a listening ear this Christmas – £5 will help us to support a caller to our helpline

“It has been the first time that someone has really listened to me and I feel so much better for calling you. You’ve really helped me and restored my faith in the community.” – Helpline caller

£10 will support an LGBTQ person with a disability to attend our drop-in service and receive support

“Having this space and meeting similar people  helps my mental health and ability to socialise…just the confidence of being able to interact, in a group where we don’t feel embarrassed, is very rare” – LGBTQ Disability Project service user

£15 will support a trans and/or non-binary person to attend our trans survivors drop-in and contact our helpline

“Your continued support during the time of my gender questioning and gender transition has been very helpful” – Trans Survivors Switchboard caller

£20 will support an older LGBTQ person to attend a group twice a month, combating loneliness and isolation

“I felt really suicidal when I came to the last group. I didn’t really care if I got knocked over by a bus. But somehow by the end of the session I felt better, and I even had a laugh about something. I’m glad you’re here, I know I will see a friendly face who I can talk to.” – Older LGBTQ Project service user

£30 will support an LGBTQ person with dementia and their carer to attend our drop-in service and receive support

“This was one of the best things I’ve been to since I moved here to Brighton, it’s just what I was looking for” – Rainbow Cafe service user

Become a friend of Switchboard

Have you thought about becoming a Friend of Switchboard? By choosing this option you will be making a commitment to the longevity of Switchboard through regular donations.

For example, by setting up a monthly direct debit of £10 you’ll be able to help an LGBTQ person with a disability to attend our drop in service for a year. That’s one person who might otherwise have nowhere they can go where they feel safe, supported and at ease.

“It is an absolute blessing to discover a group which is as diverse in so many ways…it’s centred away from an alcohol scene which means that people can genuinely interact and learn from each other…sharing coping strategies and fun activities to do together is great. Having this space and meeting similar people helps my mental health and ability to socialise” – LGBTQ Disability Project service user

You can set up a monthly donation here. If you are a UK Taxpayer, Gift Aid allows us to claim back the tax on your donation, increasing its value to us without any extra work from you.
