Can you spare a few minutes to vote for Switchboard’s Older LGBTQ project in Aviva’s Community Fund and help us secure funding for this vital project?
Switchboard’s Older LGBTQ Project has been running for three and a half years now, supporting LGBTQ people 50+ with a number of regular social activities, meet-ups and trips.
We know that there is a real need for our project; older LGBTQ people are increasingly experiencing loneliness, bereavement, isolation, invisibility and a lost identity. Recently a member of our group attended a drop in a few weeks following a bereavement. They live alone and the weekly coffee meet up provides a real life line for them (and many others). After one such meeting they gave us the following feedback, “I felt really suicidal when I came to the last group. I didn’t really care if I got knocked over by a bus. But somehow by the end of the session I felt better, and I even had a laugh about something. I’m glad you’re here, I know I will see a friendly face who I can talk to.”
We believe people should vote for our project as we are providing a vital space for older LGBTQ people to come together and be themselves free from prejudice or judgement. We provide the space, information and support where older LGBTQ people can age well – supporting their health and wellbeing and celebrating what it means to grow old fabulously!
This funding is vital in order for our work to continue. Our current funding source for this project has come to an end and we are exploring alternative options to ensure the groundwork we’ve spent the last three years establishing is able to continue.
Anyone who lives in the UK can register and will get 10 votes to use. You can spread these across multiple projects or give all 10 to one cause you particularly want to support. As a supporter of Switchboard we’re hoping you’ll choose our project. Only the projects with the most votes will receive funding from Aviva so please share the link bit.ly/VoteSwitchboard and encourage your friends and family to vote for us.
Voting ends 20th November.
