Gambling harm and crime can sit closer together than people realise. When someone is caught in a cycle of chasing losses, hiding debt, or trying to keep life afloat, it can lead to decisions they would never normally make. For some people, this may include theft, fraud, or other offences linked to gambling-related desperation, shame, or loss of control.
This is not about “bad people making bad choices”. It is about people under immense pressure, often dealing with trauma, minority stress, financial instability, isolation, or fear of being judged. For LGBTQ+ people, stigma and a lack of specialist support can make it even harder to reach out.
Many people feel terrified to ask for help once crime or criminal justice involvement is part of the picture. Shame, fear of consequences, and the belief that “no one will understand” can keep people silent for years. But support is available.
Through our 1:1 recovery coaching, you may be able to work with LGBTQ+ coaches who have personal experience of the criminal justice system because of gambling harm. They understand the fear, confusion, legal processes, and emotional weight that can come with it.
They can support you to navigate your situation, rebuild stability, and move forward with dignity. You do not have to explain your identity, justify your experiences, or hide parts of yourself. This is support from people who genuinely get it.
